Sunday Docent Job Opportunity

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden is seeking a dedicated, part-time docent with a flexible schedule to conduct tours, work in the gift shop, and complete minor office tasks. Normal hours for this position are Sundays from 11am to 4pm, but docents may be asked to work occasional extra hours. An interested in history is preferred. This is a great entry-level position for those interested in working in museums. Reliability, experience working with the public and sales experience a plus.

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden interprets the period of the Mount Vernon Hotel which operated from 1826 until 1833. Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams.
Tours are given to the visiting public from Tuesday through Sunday. In addition, the museum sponsors numerous public programs throughout the year such as our Edgar Allan Poe readings, Candlelight Tours, Washington Birthday Ball and Summer Garden concert series. The Museum also gives curriculum-based tours to public and private school children in the New York City area.

Please send cover letter and resume to jobs@mvhm.org. No phone calls please. Visit our website for more information on the museum at www.mvhm.org
