RARE, a contemporary art gallery located in Chelsea, Manhattan, is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to assist in and learn from the day-to-day duties and projects associated with the operation of a New York art gallery. As this is an unpaid internship, a student candidate is preferable to receive academic credit from his or her academic institution.

The candidate should have a strong interest in the visual arts and some previous experience working in a gallery or art management venue.
The applicant must also have a basic understanding of database management programs as well as photo-editing software. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and utilizing one’s own laptop is a requirement; familiarity with Constant Contact and Photoshop is a plus. An understanding of how the contemporary art market functions would prove helpful. The applicant should also be prepared to commit 14-21 hours of work each week beginning in late August/early September.

The duties of working in the gallery will include:

*Management of email contact lists

*Assistance with installation/de-installation of rotating
exhibitions

*Research into exhibition and residency opportunities for gallery
artists

*Editing and managing gallery’s website and blog

*Assisting director in various aspects of marketing & sales
efforts
