In conjunction with the Career Services staff, the career advisor is responsible for providing Career Services to over 4,600 undergraduate and graduate students in addition to alumni from a variety of art, design and business majors.
Responsibilities:
• Provides one-on-one career advising to students and alumni from a variety of art and design programs. Advising topics include portfolio presentation, interview skills, resume and cover letter writing, and developing a job search strategy.
• Collaborates with Associate Director to strategize outreach to employers and develop job and internship opportunities for students.
• Assists with outreach to west coast and international employers and cultivates industry partnerships.
• Organizes and supervises job fairs and other on-campus recruiting events as assigned.
• Collaborates closely with the Associate Director to develop programming including career panels featuring alumni and industry professionals.
• Develops content for Career Services publications including but not limited to career resource handouts, job search guide, promotional materials, website and blog.
• Develops and leads workshops on various career development topics including: job search fundamentals for artists and designers, resume and cover letter writing, and professional etiquette for internships.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required. MFA/MA in art/design a plus.
• Strong knowledge of art and design professions and industry trends is essential.
• Must have ability to reach out to industry and develop new employer contacts both in the U.S. and abroad.
• Experience working in career counseling, academia within an arts institution, and/or creative recruiting for art and design industry a plus.
• Experience as professional artist or designer is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills in Word and Excel. Knowledge of Adobe Suite is a plus.
• Experience with event planning such as conferences, panel discussions, and workshops.
• Good organization skills and ability to multi-task.
• Strong people skills, good judgment, and flexibility.
