The Alumni Association of the New York Academy of Art is is pleased to offer a RESIDENCY at Fieldstones to one Academy alum artist.
The AANYAA Fieldstones RESIDENCY is a summer escape in the northern Hudson Valley exclusively for one graduate of the New York Academy of Art. Spend two weeks focusing on their artwork in the peace of a 100-acre rural property complete with mountain views and a creek with a swimming hole. Bring hiking boots, marshmallows for the fire, and art supplies as you double down on your studio practice in a pastoral environment. The artist will be in solo residence the first week, the second week will overlap the 2022 AANYAA Fieldstones Retreat.

The juror for 2022 was Elena Rodz, an artist and curator from Dallas, Texas. She studied painting and film at Washington University in St Louis, Texas, and went on to receive an MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2011. In 2013, she became Curator at the Rockport Center for the Arts where she has hosted artist residencies, curated shows, and invited many graduates of the Academy to teach lectures and workshops. In addition to her nonprofit work, Elena has kept a regular studio practice working in oil, creating small scale landscapes of her hometown Corpus Christi, Texas. Some of the landscapes purely represent nature while others show where the natural world and manmade structures collide. Her scenes are often captured at twilight or evening. The loss of light and visibility lend a haunting quality that creates a tension within the pictured space, as if capturing a moment of stillness just before an action. Elena's artwork has been shown in many galleries throughout the United States and has been featured in Glasstire Magazine.
$10 application fee through Venmo; there is NO participation fee for this residency. Applications are due by June 30, 2022; notification July 15. The AANYAA Fieldstones Residency runs from August 2 -16, 2022, with arrival check-in after 5pm August 2.

2022 RESIDENCY lodging will be in a delightful barn is situated less than 100 ft. from a creek which you will hear all night long. It also comes with access to 100 acres and walking trails. As a "glamping" barn, it is very rustic: there is a solar shower and an outside privy near the barn privately nestled in a patch of tall bamboo... it's much like camping but with a few more comfortable amenities like a bed with sheets, a little refrigerator, fan, and heater, a camp cooking stove, dishes, a firepit and wood.
The selected alum will have access to Fieldstones’ artist studios in a large barn onsite. Please bear in mind that, despite Fieldstones’ many amenities (which include WIFI and hot water bathroom access), the location and lodgings are rustic. Upon acceptance, the selected alum will receive more information regarding what to pack for Fieldstones, as well as travel directions and info on local grocery stores.
