The company I work for, LaPlaca Cohen, is putting together a focus group to speak to arts/creative professionals who have also taken any type of online course/workshop/webinar on an arts or arts admin related subject in the last 2 years. This focus group will help us inform the next steps on a project we are doing with the Barnes Foundation.

Arts professionals would include anyone in the US who work full time or part time as an artist (fine/performing/craft), arts admins, designers, people who use creativity in their job daily, people who have art as their side gig, those who used art in their previous job and are now retired, and those who plan to use arts in their future jobs, etc. The definition is very broad.

I'd appreciate it if you could spread this around to the NYAA network, including people who have taken CE courses. If chosen for the focus group, participants will be compensated for their time.

Hi, I'm Tom. I am a 30 year old artist from Alaska, and am looking to rent a room or studio apartment from August 30th onwards. I'm really not picky about the living situation, just looking for a roof over my head. A place to eat, sleep, and store my belongings while off at class or work. I've more or less lived remotely with minimal water and electricity since finishing my undergrad in 2014, so pretty much anything will feel like a convenience. I'm looking for something on the cheaper end. Ideally under 1000, although I've never lived in New York and am not sure how practical that is. Am also open for a work trade situation if that is an option as well.

About me: I'll be studying an MFA in Painting, and most likely working as well, so will not have a whole lot of down time. At home I'm clean, like to read, watch movies, listen to music, cook, converse. I'm into a lot of outdoor activities (which obviously will be limited in NYC), such as climbing, hiking, skiing, fly fishing, etc... I should mention that I'm an (acoustic) musician as well, and spend a fair amount of time playing instruments. Mainly resonator guitar, banjo, and fiddle, however I'll be respectful of roommates and keep it quiet when they're around. I'm pretty handy with general maintenance/construction as well, so can probably be of use with any little fixes around the apartment. I'm definitely more of an introvert, but friendly, easygoing, and focused. This'll be my first time living in a big city for any extended period so it may be a strange adjustment, but I'm really looking forward to the experience.

$1,050 or less

Hi, my name is Guillermo! I am a fully vaccinated 28 year old Spanish artist and illustrator looking for a room in commutable distance from the NYAA. Ideally, from mid-August 2022 till May 2023. My range would be 1050 per month or less, although I’d be open to other offers.

About me: I will be studying an MFA in painting in the NYAA, so it’s likely I will be out most of the time. When I’m at home, I love to read, watch some movies (with headphones on!) or work on my digital illustrations. I cook often and clean the kitchen after every use, and I like to keep the living space tidy and clean. I don't host parties or smoke. I have been living with international roommates for ten years in cities like Madrid, Budapest and Paris, and the experiences have always been great and enriching. I love to go out explore every city I live in and meet new people, places and cultures, so I’m looking forward to NY.
