My work focuses on environmental and consumerism issues, with performance and social engagement as major components. I have traditionally focused on making large scale, temporary public installations, using recycled plastic shopping bags as the main material. Plastic to me, is the quintessential material of the 21st century: a brilliant space-age material, that completely pollutes our environment, and may eventually kill us all. Plastic also reflected my journey in America as an immigrant, speaking to my cultural observations as an outsider and an insider, and about my ambivalence about where I belong.
