The Hayama Artist Residency, the David Kratz International Center at the New York Academy of Art, and the Alumni Association of the New York Academy of Art are pleased to announce a four-week artist residency for two NYAA graduates from the MFA and CFA programs, taking place in Hayama, Japan from March 1st - March 28th, 2026.
The Hayama Artist Residency offers Academy alumni artists a four-week immersive experience in a tranquil coastal town on Japan’s Miura Peninsula. The program was founded in 2020 by independent curator Dexter Wimberly to introduce artists to Japanese culture while providing essential career-building opportunities. With a focus on research and rest, rather than studio work, the residency balances professional development with self-care in Hayama’s transformative setting facing Sagami Bay on the Pacific Ocean. Since its founding, the program has provided artists time and space to recalibrate, broaden perspectives, and forge new creative pathways in an inspiring cultural environment.
The residency is open to applications from GRADUATES of New York Academy of Art MFA and CFA programs, working in all disciplines.
Due to time constraints, only applicants from countries whose citizens can enter Japan without a visa may apply. Please check the visa requirements required by your country of citizenship.
