Patrizia Vignola is a fine artist working primarily in painting and drawing mediums. Born in NY, she currently resides in Minnesota. At an early age Patrizia was exposed to the Italian Masters which led her to immersive study in drawing and painting the human form and earning her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She also became influenced by Rembrandt, the Dutch masters and Velasquez. However, Surrealism, the work of Salvador Dali as well as the existentialist works of M.C. Escher held her mind in deep fascination. Today, Patrizia uses her academic training in figurative realism and her influences to draw the viewer into her conceptually symbolic and surreal work. Best known for her masterfully executed take on ruff collar “portraits” she innovatively combines traditional methods with a contemporary, critical examination of societal norms and social status. Her work also explores themes of birth circumstances, childhood trauma, identity, vulnerability, and the perseverance of the human spirit.
In addition to her long exhibition record, numerous awards, and grants, she has mostly recently been featured on multiple Instagram art accounts, in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, on the cover of and inside Circe Foundation’s Spotlight Magazine vol. #37, and in The Art Queens Quarterly vol. 3. Ms. Vignola is also proud to have a 25+ year teaching career the includes middle and high school, college level, continuing education programs, private and master classes for adults. Patrizia says “Teaching allows me the privilege of passing on my knowledge and my students constantly reignite my passion to make art.”
Patrizia works from her studio within the highly recognized Northeast Arts district of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is continuously inspired by people, their stories, and the strength we find to persist through the most difficult of situations.
