Statement:

I am a multidisciplinary artist and am primarily using an amalgamation of drawing and printmaking techniques to create visuals. These drawings are mostly on textured paper in different sizes. I have an interest in the use of line, and its ability to convey movement and three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface. There are two major elements in my drawings and prints, the impression of gauze cloth and the drawing of figures in movement.

D I V U L G E

“No identification needed to reflect a soul, my practice is to capture the movement/moment of a soul, when it is in the most moving posture, and that posture reflects the struggle, struggle to fight within self, to save that self or to let it suffer with in it self.”
The line is an important element in both of my techniques, the lines I draw are planned and indicate form, to give volume to my figures, whereas the lines I use in my printmaking technique are very accidental, harsh, and unplanned. My figures are nude are mostly nudes, and I think that it gives them a timelessness as they are not identifiable by clothing and cultural markers.

Bio:

Yaruk Mehmood is a New York–based visual artist working across drawing and sculpture.
